Jaime Fernández de Araoz

jaime fernandez araozJaime Fernández de Araoz knew from the beginning that his professional goal would be in investment banking which is the area he focused his post-university training on by participating in different international courses at the City of London Polytechnic (1985), at Harvard (1986) and most of all at Citicorps Institute for Global Finance (1988-1989) where he learnt about the culture of investment banking. In 1988 he graduated in Economic Science and Business Studies from CUNEF with the speciality of Finance, after having completed his secondary education in the French Lyceé.

For fourteen years, between 1989 and 2003, he worked in Lehman Brothers, Banco Santander and finally as a Managing Director, proving his human and professional capacity in all of them.

Jaime Fernández de Araoz focused on the different areas of “Corporate Finance” acquiring a distinct specialization in the analysis, execution and closing of mergers and acquisitions.

He intervened in many share placements and the issue of fixed-rate bonds, advising companies on their access to international securities markets and negotiating the terms for the sale of share stakes.

He advised Telefonica in various international acquisitions and in financial operations, including the debt restructuring of all of its affiliate companies. He advised Auna in the sale of its radio and TV broadcasting company; Antena 3 in the purchase of Onda Cero; Red Eléctrica in the purchase of transmission shares of Endesa and Unión Fenosa and Carrefour in the sale of 12 hypermarkets in Spain. He intervened in the structuring of syndicated loans of Endesa, Repsol and Iberdrola. Among his last deals, he initiated the obtaining of the mandate order that Citigroup received for the flotation of Cintra, an infrastructure affiliate of the Ferrovial Group.
